Anti-Personnel Mines (APM) : The Devil's Weapon
-APMs attack not only soldiers but civilians, without distinction.
-APMs are active semi-permanently even after the end of conflict.
-Mine victims suffer from physical and mental pain throughout their lifetime.
-APM's have very simple structure. Mass production is easy. One costs only US$1 to US$3.
-Maps which point out the location of APMs scarcely exist. Advance research, detection, and demining need immense amounts of time, labor and funds.
-The object of humanitarian demining is to clear all mines from a given area in order to return safe land to the inhabitants. Even a single mine must not be left behind in the demining area.
